Just a quick post today with the details on my IG reel on ink blending helpers!

When you’ve got open ink pads, it’s so easy to get stray ink everywhere. I’ve ruined many finished projects this way. So when I saw ink stands being sold (like this), I totally got it. At the same time, I realized I have way too many ink pad types and sizes for this to work for me.

My simple solution was something I already had in the junk drawer, double-sided silicone tape. This tape is more like a piece of sticky gel. It’s super sticky, but it’s also removable, reusable, and washable.

I have a glass desk protector on my work table. It’s very similar to a Tim Holtz glass mat. Great for keeping clean but can be slippery. The solution is attaching a small piece of the silicone tape to the glass mat. (You can use the tape on other surfaces, but do some testing first. The tape comes off easily on most non-porous surfaces).

I keep the piece of tape covered with the original cover sheet. Since it’s clear, it’s barely noticeable. When you’re ready to use, pull off the cover sheet and stick away. When you’re done, pop off the item and put the cover sheet back on. (Tip: I keep a piece of washi tape on the cover sheet so I won’t lose it) I’ve been finding other uses for it like open jars of paste and even the blender rack.

My second tip is for easy cleaning of your ink brushes. I’m trying to keep up the habit of cleaning my brushes after each use. Kind of a pain, but carryover is no joke. Again, my solution was already in the house. In the makeup cabinet! This pump dispenser below is meant to be used with makeup remover and you can dispense the cleaner with one hand. I fill mine with just plain water (hence the label that says “H-O-H”, but I may test out some stamp cleaning solution like Brutus Monroe cleaning solutions. Check out my IG reel if you want to see it in action.

Note: There are lots of these on Amazon, but I suggest getting the larger size one like the one below. The smaller ones have a different pump top that looks more like an upside suction cup as opposed to a bowl like below. The bowl type work much better with the brushes.

I know these tips aren’t life changing 😂, but I hope they help you enjoy your crafty time more!

Aloha, jj
