So glad to be here sharing my cards for the Papertrey Ink October 2023 Countdown! Today I’m sharing cards for Countdown days 1 & 2 with a collection holiday cards (my favorite cards to make)! This first card features a couple new goodies, the Skate into the Holidays stamps and dies and the Border Bling: Candy Cane 2 dies!
The Skate into the Holidays set is so charming and has so many cute details. For my card, I wanted to create a skate door hanger with two skates filled with holiday sprigs. This set even comes with a couple of sentiments that fit perfectly along the bottom of the skate boot. To give the card a little texture and detail, I stamped my images with multiple inks. I usually stamp with a lighter ink and then go back with a darker ink around the edges.
I also used the largest die in the Border Bling: Candy Cane 2 die set for the frame. There are 2 Border Bling: Candy Cane dies this month. This one has the thin stripes and #1 has a variegated stripe pattern. Both of them are perfect for holidays and beyond! With the die cut pattern, I took the opportunity to weave some ribbon into the stripes to “hang” my skates. As the final touches, I added some snow with white spray mist and some coarse clear glitter to the blades of the skates, on the tops/toes of the boot, and on the sprigs.
This next card is a super CAS one with lots of soft whites and a pop of green! I used the new large Fancy Snowflake Frame and a sentiment from the Christmas Your Way stamps and dies. As you can see the Fancy Snowflake Frame really fills the card front and can be dressed up or down. I went with a CAS version and die cut it in white glitter cardstock. Then I layered it on a vellum panel and a white glitter card base. I love the vellum panel softens the bright glitter card stock. Then I stamped and die cut the sentiment and added it to the middle of the frame. The final details include a plethora of clear rhinestones and a little bit of glitter at the edges of the vellum panel. Besides embellishing the card, the rhinestones and glitter accents make great places to hide the glue underneath the vellum panel.
These next two cards uses the Ornament Opulence stamps and dies. This set isn’t huge, but gives you everything you need to create a variety of globe ornaments. For this first card, I wanted to get the look of a box of vintage mercury glass ornaments. To mimic the patina of mercury glass, I did a couple of things. First, I stamped the solid globe with multiple inks. I suggest using a stamp positioner (I use a Misti) to make this process easier. For each ornament, I stamped a light color over the whole globe and a darker around the edges. Then I added metallic silver and darker gray around the edges. The details (snowflakes, flowers, and stripes) were then added with white heat embossing powder. To really get that speckled look, I misted the ornaments with white spray mist and silver spray mist. This was so much fun to do and I love the messy results! The sentiment comes from the new Very Merry Christmas set and I added it with a strip of cardstock just like you would see on a real ornament box. Like all the cards today, I also added touches of clear coarse glitter.
My final card today uses the same Ornament Opulence set with the Border Bling: Candy Cane 1 frame. The Ornament Opulence set includes a pine bough to “hang” some ornaments. To get a more realistic look, I punched a hole in the top of my ornaments and hung them on the branch with gold twine. To make the scene more interesting, I placed my die cuts behind the frame and off the card front in places. This sentiment is from the Very Merry Christmas set as well.
For these ornaments, I stamped the solid globe with multiple inks again to give it a little more depth. Then I heat embossed the pattern over it with a mix of gold and gold glitter embossing powders. Mixing embossing powders is a fun way to get a new look from your stash. Last but not least, I added clear coarse glitter (see a trend today;) to add some snow to the branches.
That’s it for me today, but hop over to the Papertrey Ink site to see all the fun Countdown cards!
