Many of you who’ve visited my blog before may know that in my previous crafty life, I had my own business designing and selling custom ribbon (that’s how I got my IG handle @ribbongirls). My business grew out of my hobby machine sewing and embroidering. So I find it so funny that these days I’m still sewing, but now it by hand and on paper. And the October Waffle Flower release has given me lots more new opportunities to take thread to paper!

On release day I shared some cards with stitching, but this card features stitching front and center with the Dotted Radiating Circle Die. This die has the same number of holes along the inside and the outside of the die, 30 in all. So for my card, I used 10 different thread colors and came up with this easy repeating rainbow design. The sentiment is from the Mini Sentiments stamp set and fits perfectly inside the die cut.

If you’re new to stitching on cards, here’s some tips that have helped me:

  • Use large eye tapestry needles (sizes 18 – 22 work well)
  • Get a needle threader (a small inexpensive tool to help thread your needle easier)
  • Use a pair of embroidery thread scissors reserved only for cutting thread (no paper cutting!)
  • Use heavyweight cardstock (100-120 index/cover weight) for your die cuts (or stack them)

I usually die cut multiple pieces to stitch and put them in a box with my stitching supplies. I pull out the box when I’m watching a movie, sitting in a long online meeting, or just relaxing in the sunroom. Something about the stitching is so soothing. Have you tried stitching on cards too?

If you’d like to replicate this design yourself, download the directions below.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
