I know I’m starting off the new year right when I get to play with the Tim Holtz & Sizzix Everyday 2023 release! Much love to Scrapbook.com (and Sizzix and Tim Holtz, of course) for sending these wonderful goodies!

This release has lots of fun stuff, but my eyes (and heart) were immediately drawn to the Abstract Elements set. This set has 43 (!) dies in various organic shapes and sizes. If you are looking for a set with no rules and tons of creative inspiration, this is IT! Besides the sentiment, my first card today is made totally with the dies from the Abstract Elements set. I started off my taking a full A2 sized panel and die cutting a bunch of shapes, creating a panel with negative die cuts.

I wanted to do something a little different to the negative cuts, so instead of backing each opening in the background with just one color, I did a two tone technique. First I covered half of the cutouts with colored paper. This was done directly to the back of the negative cut background. The colored papers are all from the Scrapbook.com Boho Paper Pad (love those soothing colors) for this. Then I used foam tape to pop the entire background over a full panel of copper metallic cardstock. This technique gives you color contrast and varying depths which really catches your eye. Here’s a closer look at all the layers.

This next card uses the same Abstract Elements set but in a more minimalist way. I arranged my die cuts onto a small panel and backed it with vellum to create a thin frame. I used the same papers from the Boho paper pad that I used for my last card. I was going for the look of a painting or hanging sculpture. Did you get that feeling?

Here’s a closer look at each die cut. Can I just say that I’m obsessed with that bottom die cut with all the little dots! It could be a sun/moon, a slice of fruit, a mountain, and so much more! I love, love, love all the possibilities of this wildly creative set. I know it’s going to pop up in lots more cards in my future!

Well, this next card is definitely different from the first two 😜! This card uses the new True Love Colorize set to create a custom heart shaped candy box filled with chocolates! This one was SO MUCH FUN to play with!

To get that 3D “open the box” feel to this card, I used clear acetate for the card front. With the acetate, I was able to have a floating box cover for my candy box. I added a bow using tulle which is awesome for cards because it gives lots of volume with little weight and bulk. Here’s the front of the card…

which opens up to this! Seriously, how fun is this? And the best thing, no sugar hangover and no calories 😜.

As you can see, I mixed and matched all the die cuts in different colors to create a variety of unique chocolates and added a little bit of “sugar” at the end. A little bit of shading on the die cut pieces of the candy box make it look even more 3D. For those wondering, I added another solid cardstock heart to the back side of the acetate card front to cover up all the foam tape. This back piece also makes a great place to add a hidden message inside the card. This one is hard to describe in pics, so if you want a better view, check out my video on IG!
