Just a quick post today with the details on my IG reel about storing your foil rolls!

Now that the foil machine is in regular rotation in the craftroom, I realized that throwing all my foil rolls into a bin is not the smartest storage system 🤦🏻‍♀️. Not only were the foils getting wrinkled and damaged, but they were also getting mixed by type (hot stamping, toner foiling, Deco foils, and Foil Quill). I hate wasting foil! So here’s what I came up with…

Option #1 – Thread Rack. I was originally using this rack for my serger thread, but it also is perfect for storing all the different types of foil! If you go this route, you’ll want to look for a thread rack for larger spools. My thread rack has longer spokes that are set wider apart than the racks for sewing thread. Since it hangs on the wall, it’s a space saver and looks pretty too.

Option #2 – Photo Boxes. As you can see, the 4″X6″ photo boxes can hold up to 3 Glimmer Foil rolls. This option is great if you’re already using these boxes for other things. I’m using them for longer storage.

Option #3 – Test Tube Rack. Most of my open foil rolls are on the wall rack, but I like to keep the foils that I’m currently using next to my foiling machine. I’ve already got a lab theme going on in my craftroom (I’m a scientist by trade), so test tube racks seemed like a natural storage idea for my foil rolls. This particular rack accommodates larger tubes and it’s wide enough for all the rolls I have.

One last tip – Spool Covers (aka Spool Net). You may have noticed another tool that I borrowed from my sewing room. Spool covers are a stretchy net that go over spools of thread to keep them from unrolling and getting tangled up together. In addition to my thread, I use them for my twine and now, my foil.

The foil rolls are more fragile than thread and twine, so I just use a small piece about ~1″ wide. They keep them secure but are gentler than something like rubber bands or tape.
